If you want my opinion, best way to guarantee Solaris compatability is to buy old sun equipment.
I picked up a X2100 for $61 on greys online. Quad core opteron, tyan motherboard (somewhat modified to remove all but one PCI-ex 16 slot) and 4GB of ECC memory. If noise is an issue, like it was for me, remove all the components and stick it in an atx case and replace the cpu cooler. P.S. The sata controller on that motherboard will support 2TB hard drives. - Lupco Trpeski Date: Thu, 17 Feb 2011 15:47:43 +1100 From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ug-msosug] Intel Motherboard S3210SHLX Compatibility Hey Murray, Not having used them I can only offer my thoughts and the way I applied them to my most recent motherboard purchase. - Intel graphics should be OK - but check that the chipset is one supported by the current X stuff - Intel chipset should be fine - but pay particular attention to the audio (if any, and if you care) and much more importantly to the SATA controller. You want to be sure it'll operate as AHCI. If it does not, then you will need to either get a specific driver for the chipset (good luck), or run in IDE mode, which would be rubbish... - Do you have a need specifically for a server board like this? What's the intended purpose? Do you plan to use it as a workstation? If you can feed us a little more, I can likely offer some more thoughts in general... Cheers! Nathan. :) On 02/17/11 09:55 AM, Murray Blakeman wrote: Does anyone know whether Solaris 10/11 would have any compatibility issues with this motherboard?
