thanks for replying. i'll look up the acronyms/numbers for 6.09, 11.08 and
A7k as the numbering is new to me. then i'll access the documentation.

One other question: I'll probably install 6.09 as you suggest. during the
installation there will probably be a point where i'm asked to chooose
between ZFS and UFS. am I getting myself into trouble if I select ZFS? it's
so tempting but I don't want to end up with a system that's way beyond my
abilities to maintain. enabling and maintaining opensolaris's own version of
cifs/smb instead of samba should be workable, but ZFS seems like jumping to
a higher orbit. If the ZFS installation and maintenance docs are up-to-date,
i'm willing to give it a try.
