thanks for replying. i'll look up the acronyms/numbers for 6.09, 11.08 and A7k as the numbering is new to me. then i'll access the documentation.
One other question: I'll probably install 6.09 as you suggest. during the installation there will probably be a point where i'm asked to chooose between ZFS and UFS. am I getting myself into trouble if I select ZFS? it's so tempting but I don't want to end up with a system that's way beyond my abilities to maintain. enabling and maintaining opensolaris's own version of cifs/smb instead of samba should be workable, but ZFS seems like jumping to a higher orbit. If the ZFS installation and maintenance docs are up-to-date, i'm willing to give it a try. -- TT On Mon, May 18, 2009 at 8:50 AM, Linda kateley <Linda.Kateley at sun.com>wrote: > I have tried it on one of the nevada builds, but the opensolaris 6.09 > should be out any day and that would be the best implementation. 11.08 works > nice also, that is very similar to the code that is in the A7k series of sun > network filers. > > lk > > Tom Scott wrote: > > i want to use the sunblade100 as a file server for windows and linux. was > thinking about samba for windows but then i started reading the docs on the > cifs/smb project: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/cifs-server/ > > sounds interesting. if i'm reading one of the blogs correctly it shouldn't > be too difficult: > > http://enrico.reacciona.es/articles-1/windowsinteroperabilitysharingfolderswiththesmbprotocolusingsolariscifsserver > > has anyone tried it? it looks like some of the zfs commands are used. could > be fun but possibly way more than my humble skill set can handle. > > p.s. matthew baker, thanks for reply about usb hd. i'll have to do some > reading before i understand the whole story. > > -- TT > "Less product, more architecture and specifications." -- Confucius > > ------------------------------ > > _______________________________________________ > ug-wiosug mailing listug-wiosug at > opensolaris.orghttp://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/ug-wiosug > > > > -- > Linda Kateley > Architect > Sun Microsystems > 612-807-6349 > > -- "Less product, more architecture and specifications." -- Confucius -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
