Email This Page Print This Page The Monitor (Kampala) November 8, 2002 Posted to the web November 9, 2002 Irene Nabwire Kampala Kony rebels last Tuesday raided Pabbo camp, 30km from Gulu town, killing two people and abducting others. Reliable sources from Pabbo said the rebels, estimated to be about 50, stormed the camp at midnight and killed a woman called Yona Ataa, 90, a resident of Zone A. The rebels reportedly accused the old woman of refusing to disclose the whereabouts of her sons. They also killed 15-year-old Patrick Odoc, a student of Pabbo S.S. Foot patrol UPDF soldiers later pursued the rebels as they retreated to Amuru, southwest of Gulu. The rebels looted goods from the shops within the camp, said Lt. Paddy Ankunda, the 4 Division spokesman. Ankunda denied unconfirmed reports that the rebels had abducted 35 people. "I don't think the rebels abducted 35 people, but I only know of five people whom they forced to carry looted goods," he said. Ankunda added that the UPDF recovered 62 sub-machine guns in the last one week, while 11 soldiers got serious injuries as they pursued the rebels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Make allAfrica
