Ex-Rebels, Captives Ask For Better Food

HELP: Some of the LRA former fighters and captives at the dilapidated Gulu lodge

HUNDREDS of children recently rescued by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have asked the Government to provide them with good diet, clothing, proper sanitation, water and adequate accommodation, reports Dennis Ojwee.
The group is currently being counselled at the UPDF Child Protection Union (CPU) at the dilapidated presidential lodge building in Gulu.
“We feel these problems can even be more than that of Joseph Kony war if they are not attended to relieve us from the trauma. We appeal to the UPDF and the Government to try look into these problems,” a former captive said.
The deputy commander of the UPDF fourth division, Maj. Dick Olum, said the children were being fed like the UPDF soldiers. He said the soldiers feed on beans and posho.
Olum said the UPDF would solve the children’s problems by shortening the duration they spend at the CPU centre.
He said some children were home-sick and were in need of reuniting with their families.
The children were rescued by the UPDF who are currently on massive pursuits in Uganda and southern Sudan to finish off the Kony war. Ends
