Museveni Meets Bemba

Kampala

President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday held talks with Jean Pierre Bemba, the head of a Congolese rebel group, Movement for the Liberation of Congo.

The meeting was held at State House Nakasero. The two discussed the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A statement from the President's press secretary, Mary Karooro Okurut, said the minister of Defence, Amama Mbabazi, attended the talks.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the President held talks with a special envoy from Sudan, Dr. Ghazi Salahaldin Attabani, at State House.

Museveni and the Sudanese envoy discussed the ongoing peace talks between the Sudanese government and the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA), a rebel group lead by Col. John garang.

Attabani was accompanied to the meeting by the Sudanese ambassador to Uganda, Sirajudin Hamid Yousif Mohamed.

Attabani heads the Sudan government delegation negotiating peace with the SPLA.

A statement from the President's office said the State minister for regional co-operation, Col. Kahinda Otafiire, also attended the meeting.
