UPC Slams US Aid To Uganda
intriguing
VISIT: PPC boss Rwanyarare addressing the press yesterday
THE
Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) Presidential Policy Commission (PPC) has
attacked the US government for its support to the Uganda Government, saying it
perpetuated terrorism.
Milton Olupot reports that the PPC chairman,
Dr. James Rwanyarare, yesterday said, “Imagine the US giving US$3m to Museveni
to continue pursuing the LRA war. We all know that the northern war cannot end
by the gun. The US knows the same.
“But because Museveni has jumped on the
terrorism bandwagon, he hides his terrorist activities because he claims to be
a friend of the Americans and a darling of the donor community,” he said.
In a weekly press briefing attended by top PPC officials, Rwanyarare
criticised Museveni’s visit to Israel. He said Museveni carried over US$10m in
cash, including the US$3m donated by the US to buy arms there.
He said it
was intriguing for Museveni to be hosted by former premier Benjamin Netanyahu,
a die-hard opponent of Palestine. He also rapped security forces for the
recent arrests of people said to be opposed to the Movement.
