Fugee,
Your position is correct. The quote presented as evidence as Uganda's recognition of Biafra is counterfeit; it has been altered from the original by insertion of "Uganda" into its text, and then a bogus URL was given to prevent the exposure of the alteration. For the sake of clarity,
1. The actual quote reads:
"Biafra's independence was recognized by Tanzania, Zambia, Gabon, and the Ivory Coast, but it was compromised in the eyes of most African states by the approval of South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, and Portugal. Britain extended diplomatic support and limited military assistance to the federal government. The Soviet Union became an important source of military equipment for Nigeria. Modern Soviet-built warplanes, flown by Egyptian and British pilots, interdicted supply flights and inflicted heavy casualties during raids on Biafran urban centers. In line with its policy of noninvolvement, the United States prohibited the sale of military goods to either side while continuing to recognize the FMG. "
As you see there is no mention of Uganda in the real quote. Frankly one should be proud that Uganda took a principled position on the issue rather than trying to disguise the truth by fraudently inserting Uganda's name in the paragraph.
2. The best policy would be to go the FAS site for yourself and determine where the truth in the matter lies. You can find the actual quote at:
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/ops/war/biafra.htm
or if your browser is compatible, just click here:
if you use the url supplied by Mr. Matovu, that is:
http://www.fas.org/man/dod101/ops/war/biafra.htm
you will get the "HTTP 404 Not Found" error message - "The page cannot be found",
because there is no page on that site with that URL on the FAS site. To ascertain the truth of this statement all you have to do is try to launch this URL for yourselves.
Healthy debate and honest exchange of opinions is useful, but falsifying "evidence", if you will, is at best counter-productive.
