Amin in a coma
Field Marshal Idi Amin is critically ill. His family has sent an urgent plea
to the government to allow him to be flown back home while he is still alive.
The ex-president, who ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979, is in coma in a
Saudi Arabia hospital. Family sources said Amin is suffering from kidney failure
and is currently on life support.
His wife, Madina Amin, confirmed
Amin’s illness. I am in phone contact with my sons who are at his bedside, she
told Sunday Vision. We are holding discussions as a family to determine our next
step.
A government official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the
state is in a dilemma because the decision is up to the Human Rights Commission
which cannot meet at short notice. The family made earlier pleas to the
president to allow Amin to return provided he did not engage in politics, said
the source. The president referred them to the Human Rights Commission to clear
him to return.
