The Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (UNCST) has put off launching its sixth resource centre at Aboke sub-county in Lira district.
UNCST officials cited the northern insurgency as the cause for the postponement.
Mr Robert Waswaga, a consultant with UNCST told The Monitor from his office at Uganda House that five of the expected six resource centers have already been launched.
"World Bank gave us Shs 60m to set up six resource centres in six districts. We have already sent computers and all the necessary facilities to establish the centres," he said.
He said however, they are reluctant to set up shop in the north due to the insurgency. Waswaga said resource centres are aimed at improving peoples' living standards.
While launching Ngogwe sub-county branch in Mukono last week, UNCST Assistant Executive Secretary, Joyce Muwanga urged the locals to use the facilities to improve their standards of living particularly in agriculture, education and health.
Muwanga said, "You can develop a new idea in any field and the resource centre can help you distribute the knowledge through newsletters or video recordings for the benefit of other Ugandans."
Ngogwe sub-county Chairperson, Richard Majwega promised to put the equipment to proper use.
Five resource centres have already been launched in Ngogwe sub-county in Mukono, Buwama in Mpigi, Nsize in Iganga, Nabweru in Wakiso and Nakaseke in Luwero district.
