THE Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has said it will never support any attempts to overthrow President Yoweri Museveni's Government by violent means.

Dr. James Rwanyarare, the Presidential Policy Commission chairman, told journalists in Kampala yesterday the UPC only preferred changing a government through a democratic process.

"We in UPC do not instigate coups. They affected us very much. We were twice victims of coups which overthrew our government and we know what it means. We want to remove Museveni through free and fair elections," Rwanyarare said.

He was reacting to reports attributed to Maj. Shaban Bantariza blaming him (Rwanyarare) for spreading rumours on an alleged coup plot which he claimed led to the recent reshuffle in the UPDF.

Rwanyarare condemned last week's incident in Kabale in which MP Michael Mabikke was beaten up with other UYD members.
