Will it safely midwife the birth of democracy in the Middle East and elsewhere even if this works against its strategic interests?

The answer here is a flat NO.  There is absolutely no way the United States is going to midwife the birth of Democracy in the Middle East especially if such "democracy" works against it's geo-stratagic/political interest...ie OIL and Israeli Interest.

Recently when US President George Bush's said that the "establishment of a free Iraq at the heart of the Middle East will be a watershed event in the global democratic revolution," many analysts sneered.

Probably rightly so... I really strongly doubt as to whether the US can successfully succeed in establishing democracy  among  the arabs in Iraq.   Only the American Neo-Con  do believe this  notion . Nonetheless the Jury is still out on this one.
