KAMPALA - The money that Bunyoro kingdom is seeking from Britain as compensation for the lost counties has shot up to about Shs 600 billion. They had originally asked for Shs 340 billion. The Banyoro claim that they lost Bugangaizi and Buyaga counties to Buganda Kingdom, more than 100 years ago, following the signing of the Uganda Protectorate Agreement with the British colonial masters in March 1900.The signing transferred the two counties from Bunyoro-Kitara kingdom to Buganda.

"We can put the cost slightly over US $300m," the speaker of the Bunyoro kingdom, Mr Earnest Kizza told Sunday Monitor on phone.Kizza said that the kingdom is consulting with local and international lawyers to kick-start the case."We have consulted lawyers from the United Kingdom because we need international law experts in this case," he said.Kizza said that the case could kick-off within a month's time.

He however did not say where the hearing would be held."Our lawyers shall tell us whether we should have the case here or outside the country," he said. The United Kingdom is being jointly sued with the Uganda government, the Buganda kingdom and absentee landlords in the said counties.

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state."

- Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels - Hitler's propaganda minister
