Northern conflict needs good doctor

This is a comment on the Barlonyo massacre. Itâs disheartening for leaders to tell us that regardless of the number of people killed, it doesnât warrant us to refer to what happened as a massacre.

How many innocent Ugandansâ blood must be shed for an atrocity to be described as a âmassacreâ?The government should stop hiding behind egos and seek partners to resolve this conflict. For 17 years we have had instability and the situation is getting out of hand each day, irrespective of promises to end the insurgency and ultimatums from the UPDF and its commanders.

Itâs not too late to reverse this situation, though. In spite of the celebrated NRM achievements, the northern situation remains an ulcer in the side of President Museveni, NRM and UPDF that needs to be given a permanent cure by a qualified doctor (internal or external).

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state."

- Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels - Hitler's propaganda minister
