KAMPALA - Mr Mayanja Nkangi, the Conservative Party leader, yesterday said he had forgiven federo agitators who pelted him with stones on Friday. But Nkangi complained that his hosts simply looked on as participants at a federo workshop shouted him down.

The two-times former Buganda Katikkiro was forced to leave a federalism workshop organised by Buganda kingdom at Mengo. "We have struggled for federo from the 1960s and those people who prevented me from talking can not say they love federo more," Nkangi said by telephone.

"But I have forgiven them. The Lord Jesus protected from any harm"
The Monitor yesterday reported that participants were angry after Nkangi initially declined to speak on the theme, "Kabaka in Buganda".

But Nkangi said he hesitated because he had not been invited as a speaker rather as a participant. "There was a lot of Green and white where the noise was coming from and I think that was part of the problem," he said, declining to elaborate. Green and white are best known locally as official colours of the Democratic Party.
