Mutiny in Guinea-Bissau
ISSAU, Guinea-Bissau, Oct. 6 - Hundreds of mutinous soldiers demanding pay for United Nations peacekeeping duty in Liberia took to the streets on Wednesday in Bissau, seized government buildings and killed the army leader.
A spokesman for the Portuguese Foreign Ministry, Antnio Carneiro Jacinto, said the mutineers had killed Gen. Verssimo Seabra Correia, who ousted President Kumba Yalla in a coup last year.
Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Jr. appealed for calm in the West African country and sent a delegation to negotiate with the leaders of the mutiny.
