PARLIAMENT - Parliamentary Affairs State Minister, Ms Hope Mwesigye, wants the voting in parliament to be open. Mwesigye told The Monitor on Wednesday that she would support the amendment of rules of Parliament such that MPs could vote by show of hands.

MPs should not vote secretly. They are supposed to be accountable to their electorate, she said. The minister said the people who vote for MPs should know any action taken by their representatives in Parliament.

She said there is no Parliament that votes in secret and she there was no reason for Uganda Parliament to vote in secrecy. There are MPs who do what is contrary to what people sent them for. Why do some MPs want to do things in hiding? They should be having ill motives, she said.

Parliamentary Advocacy Forum (PAFO), Chairman, Mr Augustine Ruzindana, said the government wants to manipulate the rules of Parliament to win the amendment of the constitution to allow the President Museveni a third term in office.

The trick here is simply...by advocating for "open voting system" other then by " secret ballot" in parliament,  the Regime ( NRM regime that is)  hope to intimidate ..perhaps even purnish   those members of parliament who did not "vote wisely" ..and so  you have NRM minister calling for an "open vote system "  . Members of the Uganda parliament and citizens of Uganda should oppose this latest move by the dictatorship.
