PADER - The UPDF says it has arrested 26 rebel collaborators of the Lords Resistance Army in Pader district in the last one week. The UPDF 503 Brigade Spokesman based in Kitgum, Lt. Chris Magezi, confirmed the arrest and said they were still carrying out more investigations.
Magezi said some of the people in their custody are businessmen, local councillors and some born-again Christians. They were arrested in Patongo sub-county and Agago county.
He said the UPDF would continue hunting down rebel collaborators because they are part of the problem prolonging the northern insurgency.
Those people in our custody are part of the reason why the war in the north does not end, Magezi said. The councillor representing Palabek Kal sub-county in the district council, Mr Charles Odonga Kasoozi, said two boys from his area had been arrested on suspicion they had links with LRA rebels.
He said the rebels who surrender to the army seem to be under pressure to implicate anybody in order to save them from intense interrogations by the military.
The Intelligence Coordinator of Operation Iron Fist, Col. Charles Otema, said the army would continue arresting rebel collaborators unless they stop taking food supplies to the LRA.
Otema said some of the internally displaced people, who go to dig away from their camp, take salt and other food items to the rebels.
He appealed to the rebels still marauding in the bushes in northern Uganda to surrender in order to benefit from the amnesty.

This latest NRM/UPDF action of arresting so called "LRA collaborators" ( innocent Uganda civilians and fellow citizens) must be condemned in the strongest term possible by peace loving citizens and members of the International community. Obviuosly the NRM/UPDF has failed in it's efforts to contain the so called "KONY Rebels"... Instead ...instead the regime is now diverting it's fury upon innocent Uganda civilians .
We have seen this kind of moves before during the days of Idi Amin. Idi Amin's State Research operatives, for your recollection fellow citizens, were dispatched into the villages, towns and city to arrest, torture and murder many alleged enemies of Amin's Second Republic of Uganda. Very manyof our fellow citizens lost their lives in such manner. Today in 2004, Museveni and his NRM military dictatorship have resurrected Idi Amin's Modus Operandi once more. This time again targeting the innocent.
