Bwanika Witchdoctor arrested for defiling own daughters THE Police yesterday raided a shrine of a traditional medicine- man in a city suburb and arrested him over allegations that he defiled his two primary school-going daughters. Hassan Sserwada, the director of Hassan High School, was picked up from his home in Nsambya West, next to his school, and detained at Katwe Police Station. The raid came after the 14 and 16-year olds narrated their ordeal to a sympathiser, who notified the Police. Katwe CID chief Lawrence Ebwosu said Sserwada would be charged with defilement and incest, adding that one of the girls was a Primary Seven candidate, and the other was in primary six. The girls were allegedly repeatedly defiled by their father, a husband to five wives. “He would give them a herbal concoction in the night, which would leave them semi-consciousness and then defile them,” Ebwosu said. Only the daughters, the Police said, lived with their father in the main house. All his wives slept in the servants’ quarters. Sserwada, the Police said, would wait for the daughters to return from night studies to administer the local herbs before defiling them. Sserwadaallegedly shook off the Police on Monday and sped off with his daughters in his car, after learning that the Police had been to the girls’ school, where they recorded statements from them. It is suspected somebody tipped-off Sserwada about the inquisition at the school, prompting him to rush there to pick his daughters and then escape. He was, however, netted yesterday in the morning upon returning home after spending the night away. “We are hunting for the girls as we proceed with investigations. It is crucial that the girls be examined by a surgeon,” Ebwosu said.
