Suspected People's Redemption Army (PRA) rebels were yesterday charged with treason at Buganda Road Court.
The four suspects hail from Arua and Yumbe districts.
Prosecution also charged them with concealment of treason information and planning to overthrow the Government by force.
They were identified as Patrick Okiring alias Efforte and Bruhan Driatre, both businessmen from Yumbe.
Others were Yasin Kesia Gele, 57 and Zacharia Musa Obbo, 48.
The prosecutor, Lillian Omara, said between January and December last year, the suspects planned to overthrow the Government by recruiting and mobilising logistical support for the PRA.
The offences were reportedly carried out in Yumbe, Nebbi, Rukungiri, Arua and Kampala districts.
Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa did not allow them to enter plea and remanded them in Luzira Upper Prison till Wednesday when they are to appear jointly with 17 other suspects charged with the same offences.
Okiring and Driatre said the arresting officers took away their money.
He said he was tortured and had developed a serious chest pain.

Okiring asked Kaggwa to allow him access medical treatment, saying he had not received any since he was arrested.
Kaggwa advised him to seek treatment through the prisons department, saying there were facilities through which they could access treatment.
