The exiled leader of the Forum for Democratic Change, Dr Kizza Besigye, has promised the people of Rukungiri and the whole country that victory over President Museveni is near, saying all they needed was to tighten their belts.
His message was read out on Saturday at the opening of the first branch for the opposition party. "I am not just seated. I am working hard to make sure that dictatorship is chased. There is no peace without a struggle. Tighten your belts, victory is near and it's ours," Besigye said.

He compared the situation in Uganda to that in the famous book, "The Animal Farm," a copy of which he sent to the people.
Besigye said he is hurt by being away from his people.
"I am pained that I am not with you in my country. The government harassed me out. Iam being harassed even in exile," he said.
Besigye's message drew wild cheers from the crowd.
Speaker after speaker attacked Museveni.

FDC's Inter-party Coordinator, Mr James Musinguzi Garuga, said FDC was not ready to turn the other cheek when intimidated.
"The one-sided beating of 2001 will not be accepted. We are ready to beat if they beat us," he said.
