Authorities from North Kivu in the DR Congo have appealed to their counterparts in Uganda to stop Ugandan cattle from crossing into their territory, writes Ignatius Bahizi.
The appeal was made recently at a cross-border security meeting between the administrators of Rutchuru, the administrative centre of North Kivu and officials from Kisoro district at Mubano Hotel in Kisoro town.
The Congo officials, however, said they had not completely banned Ugandan cattle from crossing to their territory but those taking their cattle should first seek permission to graze in gazetted areas.
Security officials from Kisoro expressed concern over the increasing number of illegal immigrants from Congo and the Rwandans who enter Uganda through the Congo border, claiming to be refugees from Congo seeking asylum. The Ugandans insisted that those people were a security threat to the nation.
