Continued intimidation of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters across the country has drawn angry reactions from party leaders.
The latest incident was the arrest of an FDC youth winger on Wednesday at Parliament in Kampala last week.
Mr Sam Mugumya was arrested for reportedly carrying FDC party T-shirts to Parliament. He was detained at Kampala Central Police Station for a night until Bugweri MP, Mr Abdul Katuntu, secured his release on Thursday morning.
Mugumya was taking the T-shirts to Busongora South MP, Mr Christopher Kibanzanga, when security agents arrested him. Addressing hundreds of supporters at the launch of FDC offices in Mbale on June 9, the party's national mobiliser, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu, said President Museveni should remember what happened to him in 1980 and stop his security agents from indulging in such illegal arrests of innocent people.

In 1980, Museveni, the vice chairman of the then ruling Military Commission, was detained and humiliated at an army road block in Kireka. "These kind of arrests should not be done simply because another term in office for Museveni is being sought.
Mugumya is not alone, many other people are going through the same intimidation," a charged Muntu said. He said intimidation and arrests would not be tolerated by his organisation.
