The UPDF 505 acting brigade commander, Maj. Fred Rugadya Akiki, sustained multiple injuries when his military pick-up truck was ambushed by LRA rebels on the Gulu-Patiko road in Aswa County on Sunday.
A

of Gulu University, Annette Nyamahunge, aboard the vehicle, was killed. The northern-based army spokesman, Lt. Chris Magezi, yesterday said, "Some bullets hit him (Rugadya) in the ribs and arms. There was a woman with him in the car who was seriously injured but I don't have her details."
Magezi said Rugadya was in stable condition at Gulu Independent Hospital. Security sources said Rugadya's right arm was shattered.

Magezi said Rugadya was heading to the brigade headquarters at Ajulu in Patiko sub-county, Aswa county, at 6:30pm, when about four rebels ambushed his vehicle only 1km after Unyama Bridge.
Last year, Lt. Col. George Magezi, Rugadya's predecessor, was ambushed by the LRA rebels as he was heading back to the same brigade headquarters. He died at Mulago Hospital due to the injuries.
