Dear Community Member:

 

On behalf of the Ugandan Community Organization in California (UCOC), I am writing to inform you that Mr. Olara Otunnu, the former UN Under- Secretary and Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict will be visiting us at the Ugandan Community Church on Saturday, April 11, 2006 at 6:00pm. He will speak about “Saving Our Children from the Scourge of War." He will discuss two related themes: the international campaign he led for the United Nations to ensure effective protection for children exposed to armed conflict, and the situation in northern Uganda, which he describes as the worst place in the world to be a child today. He calls it “genocide.”  

 

We encourage you to come hear this son of the land talk about the plight of children in our time, and what we are doing—and not doing—to protect the weakest and neediest of our society. This lecture is especially relevant to those who have been watching what has been happening to children the world over. Sometimes it seems as if a war has been declared on children.
