Buturo, get real (Kiiso kya Mbuzi)
ETHICS minster James Nsaba Buturo recently cautioned journalists to be careful when writing about important people like himself. He said: “l am happy that William Pike has left... I am happy with what happened at The New Vision.”
First and foremost, Buturo should know that he is a public official elected to work in the Government on behalf of Ugandans. It is foolhardy for Buturo to imagine that he is so important that he can disregard other citizens.
Secondly, it is not William Pike who caused Buturo to have issues with funds which he reportedly got from Mega FM. It is not The New Vision that told Buturo not to refund money which he received for a trip to Malaysia, where he never went.
Why do Ugandan leaders always want to pass on blame to others instead of owning up to their personal failings? It is ridiculous.
As long as our country still has leaders who think they are very important, we will remain backward. For God and my country.

Buturo, just pay back the dime!
Timothy Bukumunhe's Idle Notes
TB, it has been a while since we last idly heard from you. The Nsaba Buturo you are talking about, is he not a doctor and the ethics and integrity minister?
That he is, sadly, his integrity has been dented. And because of that, I see no need to refer to him as honourable. We are going to stick to calling him that man Buturo.
TB, that is on the harsh side because Honourable Buturo is a man who has been appointed by President Yoweri Museveni and that is good enough for me unlike you who was appointed by a mere William Pike. On top of that, Museveni made him ethics and integrity minister because Honourable Buturo is squeaky clean. He has never put his fingers in the cash till.
Oh dear, but I hate to shatter your dreams, because Buturo has been a naughty boy, in that there is a tsunami lashing him left, right and centre.
I still stand by him TB, but rather than shut you out, please lay bare all your issues with him and I will see if he has a case to answer.
Okay. Last year he got sh3m to travel to Malaysia for a conference and now it has been revealed that he got sh20m from Gulu-based Mega FM.
So he got sh3m to travel to Malaysia and sh20m from Mega FM. Big deal TB, big deal. You are going to have to do better than that. Like I said Honourable Buturo is squeaky clean and a man who does not put his fingers in the till.
Ah, wait for this. For starters he got the 3m but did not go to Malaysia for the conference. And to bring his ethics into question, he made no attempt to refund the money. It was only after the story was leaked to the media that he made promises to pay it back. In an interview with Sunday Vision recently, he claimed he did pay it back though we are still waiting to see the deposit slips or receipts. Should I continue?
Not really and if you feel you must continue, is it possible I could have a glass of water first for my throat suddenly feels dry.
As for the sh20m from Mega FM, he admits receiving it and somewhere down the road he says that as his office cannot account for the money, he had undertaken to refund it. Since he personally got the money, why drag his office into it?
TB, I have to admit that I am at a loss for words and I am inclined to join sides with you and call him that man Buturo. Has he said anything in his defence?
Yes he has and this is where he really showed off his brain power. Caught in a corner, rather than admit his guilt, he tried to shift the blame to William Pike, saying: “The New Vision gave a huge headline and thought they had made a kill. I must say I am happy that William Pike has left. When you run a story about an important person you find out the other side.”
TB, you know these politicians. Is Buturo really an important person?
Ha, that man Buturo an important person? Don’t make me laugh for sadly it appears that he is suffering from illusions of grandeur! And I will tell you something is he a state minister of ethics and integrity in the president’s office. It is natural for everyone to feel important. It’s also one’s right to feel so or imagine so. Therefore it may be real or just a figment of one’s imagination.
TB, as ethics minister, why did Buturo not go through the right channels to get that sh20m from Mega FM?
Good question there. In the past when some people have been dishonest they have not followed correct procedures. Not only that, when it comes to land or cash, they ensure there is no paper trail, not that I am suggesting that is what that man Buturo intended to do.
Things must really be tight for him. What do you suggest he does?
Like I said earlier on, Buturo was not as smart as he thought he was and rather than blaming William Pike and Nathan Mafabi from the public accounts committee, he should just pay back the dime. He should also issue a public apology saying his integrity and ethics took a slip in that without bad intentions.
