By the time all this dust settles down, I predict a
total closure of Makerere University or being taken over as an out side campus
of Mbarara University. Musamize, Ffe kasita twebaka wabula batuwe ka Federal

To late I have to go to bed now.

Security chiefs on Monday deployed 2000 undercover
operatives to Makerere University following intelligence reports that
the Opposition FDC elements were instigating students into an Orange
Revolution, by striking and staging a demo to State House.
The
intelligence reports indicated that Makerere Guild president Gerald
Karuhanga had been holding night meetings with FDC president Dr Kizza
Besigye at the FDC leader¢s home in Mbuya. The night meetings were to
plan for a student strike in support of the striking teaching staff.
Indeed, yesterday students joined in the strike, this time
making it violent. Students vandalised nearby shops and looted items
from Wandegeya and Kikoni shops. Anti-riot police in full gear, backed
by water cannons, regular police and other security forces ringed the
university and battled the rioting students. Sixteen were arrested.
The 2,000 undercover operatives were supposed to mix with the
students and lecturers to take part but monitor the strike to prevent
the riotous from threatening national security.
The original
lecturers¢ strike was peaceful. They were demanding a salary increment
as promised by President Yoweri Museveni in April 2004. It is this
peaceful strike that Besigye and elements of the FDC tried to
hijack. | http://www.redpepper.ug/details.php?item=7
