Mwaami Kironde

And I see the massive changes he has done in Kampala, so do not even bite your
tongue.

FOR PRESIDENCY?

Most probably Ugandans are not easily duped by one being eloquent, they like
the Al hajji and that goes a long way to show you the unelactability of the
Doctor. You could accummulate all the accolades from Harvard and a PII fella
from Bwayise floors you head first.

    Sebaggala's speech at Rio dinner*

========================================================================================
A lot went on behind the scenes during Manchester United footballer Rio
Ferdinand's visit last week, but the epitome was the speech given by mayor Al
hajji
Nasser Ntege Sebaggala during the Proline Charity dinner at Serena hotel.
24-Seven transcribed most of it - for your reading pleasure...

I just want to inform you, I met your father through the friend, we
discussed a lot but that time I was not so much familiar with him. Somebody
tried to tell me what he is, ah, being that I was not very much keen on the
team which we've been discussing then took me a lot of time.

At time I thought was not serious. You know, my background, I'm a man of
Liverpool. I think you remember the people like Barnes [John Barnes] where was,
I think the father of Man-U. Here in Uganda we have a team of called Express,
is the father of other teams therefore Liverpool as far as you're concerned was
the father of footballers and other teams.

You see one of the bigger problem, Ugandans they don't got ah, read the
background of the history. I'm lucky I went back to school and then I learned
so many things. Therefore I encourage you, go back in your school and you go
back in books and then you learn what is a background of a Liverpool. Ladies
and gentlemen I want to appreciate Najib [Mujib], that was a wonderful job he
did. No wonder Najib, he play, he used to play in my team, which is I'm a
leader now - KCC. You see the time when I become a mayor; KCC was doing very
very bad.

Rio I just want to tell you, I'm one of the football fanatic, always I have
got a luck. KCC is now one of the best teams in Uganda. Just recently, we play
with Nigeria, but ah, five player was came from the KCC, so you can magine!
Maybe some of you, you may thought this is the first player who has been in
Uganda, but some of us who have been here for long time, this is not the first
one, but is a like one we have another one.

In 1958, the good player from UK by the name of Sir Andrew Mathew was here
in Uganda, at that time, the big play like Masajjage, Jimmy Omulogo, Tamaligwe.
You see when this young man was here, was so much concerned the team of
outside, but that's why you see I'm here to give the background again in
Uganda, to help you to understand, what is the background of Uganda.

At that time we used to have a cup called Gosage, where you could find
people like Kadenge, some of you I don't know whether you still remember them.
Which mean that one in Uganda, it is very fanatic with football. So what you
have been, you see here, really this have been in our heritage, and Uganda,
used to be one of the best in football in East Africa, maybe in Africa.

But I want to appreciate you, to put all your effort, especially your
father who work tirelessly to be that is persuading you to visit this country
the Pearl of Africa. So me I'm not very surprising, most of you have been born
on this country long time ago from your grandfathers and grand sisters. So
you're coming back to home. I think it is the right time to invest heavily in
your country, which is very recognise you, so I think you're doing that you are
going to do the best job which require from the bottom of your life. Ladies and
gentle man, we have see people was trying to help us.

I think the young man when was here, he encourage us to see that we work
our level best to see we help ourselves. Which I notice in Europe, none of them
has got a credit to us Africa. So we have a say, "Nkwatilako taba mumbowa". You
can translate that in your friends if they don't understand that. Therefore I
welcoming you in Uganda, and this is the pearl of Africa. And you heard when
they call me, in town here they call the people's mayor, they're so many
meanings, that's why you see I call
    them Seya.

You see sometime always, people they come on their luck, I'm so proud when
I see you when I'm a mayor of this town, which means that is, ah, I came with
the luck and I'm so proud to tell you that on Monday, on this same building,
on same conference where you are, we are going to host seven presidents from
East Africa. They coming to sign one of the biggest documents; The Treaty Of
East Africa. The same time, I want to invite you in November with your father,
the queen of England, the head of Chogm, will be here on this room. At that
time almost 56 heads of states, prime ministers will be here. I will give you
two nights accommodation on this hotel." One thought comes to mind; Chogm here
we come!
