Ugandans
I wonder if the report I read about this dead kid from Mulago hospital was the
very same one many of you read. For the one I read stated that David Oketcha
died for his umbilical code was simply cut badly. Mayimuna Kenyi, David
Basobokwe and Abbey Ssemuwemba have all raised up to be counted, as members
wishing to raise funds for the mother's in Mulago hospital. My question to you
all, how can money sent to Mulago save a life of a baby like David from a nurse
or a doctor that cuts an umbilical cord bad?
And let me ask this question too. Since time memorial women have been having
babies out of hospitals, both in Uganda and in many other nations, right here
in Ontario we still have very many women having home births, but in Uganda
babies were born on a banana tree for the fibre of a banana tree is used to tie
both ends and then the umbilical cord is cut. How can a nurse in Mulago a
nations main hospital cut an umbilical cord badly? I mean are there any other
ways to cut the umbilical code? When you are in an establishment like a
hospital labour ward you honestly have to have a clue on what you are doing,
you cannot stand in front of a delivering mother when you do not know what to
do. How did this individual end up into a hospital facility to help a
delivering mother with out having a knowledge of what she/he was doing? I think
that is the most fundamental question that must be asked here before we run so
fast to get bank loans from our bank managers to send money to Mulago hospital.
Was this individual educated to deliver such a service or this was one of the
Makerere University new graduates getting degrees from sex trade as we have
just seen the reports from Kampala papers? But before I even go there you do no
need a degree from Makerere to know how to deliver a baby let alone to cut an
umbilical code. You either know or you do not as simple as that. Now if these
are the kinds of medical providers we have in Uganda, what makes you to think
that if you send money or equipments they will know how to use them? May be
just may be the entire system has crashed down and the education that was being
put into these people before they take care of our patients, all died out and
now you work in Mulago for you are so and so? This is very troubling but most
importantly troubling for it did not happen out in Anak but in Kampala and in
Mulago and in a national highest hospital. Now tell me what happens out there.
If this is what you have in a national hospital. And when we are at it, what
steps have been taken by the Ministry of health to make sure that this kind of
nonsense does not happen in Mulago or any hospital of Uganda? What has happened
to this medical provider, is he/she still working in Mulago hospital,
delivering other babies?
But most importantly are the Doctor's in Mulago hospital this incompetent or
this umbilical code was simply cut badly for the owner was an Alur in a Buganda
hospital and in front of a non Northerner medical provider?
Just openly curious !!!
