You hit the nail on the head, Brother! In this global economy and world, EDUCATION is the key to life. Without an education one might as well be dead. Furthermore, not just any education. Parents have to study the world and determine the education that will guarantee their children/grand children careers/employment etc. On top of that being fluent in the Queen's Language is extremely essentail. Look at us! If our people did not sacrifice to send us to school, would we be where we are? Connected to this education topic are politicians. Any government which does not support the education of citizens should be kicked out. What will the future of a nation be with illiterates? How can they be productive citizens without knowledge to do work and get paid? It is not enough to educate friends and family of political rulers. The entire pupulation needs access to good education, good health and economic development. Any politician, who fails to accomplish the three is an ENEMY of the people and their Nation!! This also opens door for foreigners with the appropriate skills to come and work in a country/nation and then take the earnings to their home country--the brain drainage. Let me get off the keyboard so you can go and have a VIBRANT Weekend!

Welcome to Global World & Economy *To: The First Virtual Network for friends of Uganda <ugandanet@kym.net> Sister, you are right. The movement between the two countries can partly be explained by globalization. The movement south or north are mostly by highly trained people who go to where there are better opportunities in their fields. This is indicated by the insignificant 30,000 out of a population of 250M. This is hardly a new phenomenon. For example, ambitious actors from north of the border often head south to make a name for themselves. Young men ran away north rather than fight in Vietnam The mocking use of the "yes we can," meant as a slight to Obama is just a misguided sentiment. According to a new report by *CTV News<http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/recession-unemployment-drive-americans-north-1.875578> *, economic woes in the U.S. are driving a record number of Americans across the northern border as they seek better job opportunities and cheaper education in Canada. In 2011, Ottawa approved 34,185 visas for U.S. residents — a figure that falls just short of the all-time record of 35,060 approved visas in 2010. By comparison, fewer than 20,000 Canadians moved to the U.S. over the past two years — the lowest number in nearly a decade. It wasn't always this way. When I was in university — back in the late 1990s — my economics professor asked how many of us intended to move to the United States. Almost all of us, fourth-year macroeconomics students, raised our hands. It was the 'brain-drain' era: the American economy was strong and many of Canada's best and brightest were heading south to find work. Both the media and and politicians dubbed the exodus a crisis; studies were commissioned and papers were written. But what a difference a decade makes. "Since the 2008 economic crises, we have witnessed a steady stream of Americans applying for Canadian work visas," Canadian immigration attorney Michael Niren <http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/canada-politics/www.VisaPlace.com>told *Yahoo! Canada News* in an email exchange on Thursday. "The main reason for this is lack of employment in the U.S. and our strong Canadian dollar." Niren says most Americans who come to Canada do so through the expedited "NAFTA visa" process which requires applicants to have a Canadian job offer in one of 63 recognized occupations<http://www.canadavisa.com/nafta-temporary-work-permit-canada.html>. The U.S. has a similar temporary visa — the TN visa<http://www.visaplace.com/usa-immigration/tn-visa-applications.php>— for Canadians who want to work there. For the time being, however, it appears Canada's brain drain has been plugged.
