Dear Mr Jamil, I feel that it’s my duty to shade some light on the current situation in Egypt uprising on the 30th of June 2013.On that day, unprecedented number of people in the history of Egypt, and maybe in the history of mankind, took to the streets in peaceful demonstrations against the performance and failure of the Muslim Brotherhood regime in tackling the serious problems facing Egypt, including the economy, security and social services, together with the misuse of power towards the established institutions: judiciary, media, intellectuals and religious institutions (Al Azhar and the Coptic Church). The Brotherhood regime was systematically working to impose its followers in the ministries and governorates and all other states’ institutions. Taking this into consideration, the Egyptian people, it’s political, liberal and democratic forces recognized that Egypt cannot afford another year of further deterioration in their well-being.Few days before the 30th of June, the majority of the Egyptian people exercised direct democracy by appealing to the army to interfere to correct the process and restore the principles of the 25th of January 2011 revolution. Hence, the intervention of the Armed Forces was a response to this national massive direct democratic will and their realization that the national security of Egypt was threatened. The “plan for the future” which the Armed Forces declared was in coordination with other political and religious forces, including the youth, which actually launched the 30th of June uprising. The “future plan” included the establishment of new institutions; including the appointment of an interim president who was the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, the formation of an interim government capable of dealing with pressing domestic problems and the new situation in Egypt. It is encouraging and persuasive that on the 8th of July 2013, a presidential statement declared a constitutional declaration setting a time frame for the following steps: Drafting a constitution which will be implemented after a popular referendum . Preparing for a parliamentarian elections where all political parties will participate. Presidential elections. This means that within 7-9 months, Egypt will have a democratic political system based on established institutions. It is hopeful that the future political system will not exclude any political faction, including members of the Muslim Brotherhood, so long as they are not committed to violence. Finally,I am sure that you will read the situation in Egypt in the light of the former facts.Regards, Nanis -- UMBS is devoted to matters of interest to Ugandan Muslims and Africans in general.
