EM,
I see you have swore in the name of Allah that the following people will
never become heads of states in their respective countries: Kiza Besigye,
Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Olara Otunnu, Nobert Mao, Raila Odinga and Morgan
Tsvangirai. You may be right. But, all I know is that not everybody who gets
involved in social and political transformation becomes head of state. Some
simply shape and direct the course of history which in most cases have more
impact. The following are examples:
* W.W. Du Bois who wrote extensively and was best known spokesperson
for African American rights during the half of the 20th Century.
* Martin Luther King was not only the symbolic leader of American
blacks but also a global figure.
* Franz Fanon the author of the Wretched of the earth was not only a
distinguished psychiatrist, but also took part in the Algerian National
Movement and in addition was one of the most important theorists of
revolutionary struggles, colonialism, and racial difference in history.
* Dedan Kimathi was head of the Mau Mau, a militant group that waged a
guerrilla war against the Bristish rule in Kenya.
* Chief Albert Luthuli was one of the leading lights behind the
defiance campaign-a non-violent protest against the pass Laws introduced by
apartheid government in South Africa. He also won a Nobel Prize in
Literature following his book "Let My People Go".
* Mother Thereza who received permission from the Holy See to start
her own order, the Missionaries of Charity whose primary task was to love
and care for those persons nobody was prepared to look after. Today the
Order comprises Active and Contemplative branches of sisters and brothers in
many countries.
* Che Guevara the Angentine Marxist revolutionary who was a major
figure of the Cuban Revolution and later became a global insignia within
popular culture...He even checked Mobutu's Congo and enjoyed Tabuley and
Franco's musica before the days of Kanda Bongo Man and Dombolo ya Solo. In
Knoxville, TN, there is even a Mexican restaurant named after him where you
can get Chimichanga, Alaskan King crab enchiladas, smoked shrimp quesadilas
capped with a tequila.
These folks, muna Luweero munange Mulindwa did not only make history but
shaped its course as well without becoming Presidents, Prime Ministers or
Kings. If the people you mentioned do not become presidents, but play their
cards well, they can still make great contribution to their countries and
societies far beyond that of even a King!
