DRC : Hyundai announces the establishment of its assembly plant in Kinshasa
The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC ) signed Saturday,
October 23 a Memorandum of Understanding with Central Motors , representing
the Korean company Hyundai. Under this contract , the latter undertakes to
implement an assembly plant of Hyundai bus in Kinshasa. The general manager
of this business , Maan Bou, stated that the date of implementation will be
provided by the Department of Transport in the coming days .
This contract will not only increase the number of new bus traffic on the
roads of the capital, create jobs locally , but also to be a pole export
this brand to all of Central Africa, said Maan Bou .
To do this, Central Motors is committed to mobilizing an initial investment
of 30 million U.S. dollars.
The same day, the Congolese government signed another contract with the
Association of owners of vehicles used for public transport ( Apveco ) .
Through this agreement , Hyundai will deliver two hundred fifty minibus new
private owners working in the field of transportation.
These buses , according to the Minister of Transport Justin Kalumba fit into
the government's policy to renew the fleet in private for public transit in
the city of Kinshasa.
"This advanced dual in the sense of increased transit conditions in Kinshasa
can be considered , quite rightly , as the signing of the death certificate
of the buses , which have bus that name , commonly called "spirit of death,"
said Minister Justin Kalumba .
He added that with the help of the government in addition to the initiative
of Transco bus , it is possible to solve significantly the problem of
transportation in Kinshasa.
The Apveco currently eight hundred members of which only sixty-three are in
order with the paperwork and fees cent.
