Ugandans

Just imagine if there was a national identity in Rwanda, naming the names
addresses and tribes. Just think about that scenario. Do you actually see let
alone visualize an Acholi like Chongwok let alone a Langi like John Ogole
sitting in Katikamu, when he knows exactly how many Baganda are in Luwero?
Just imagine a copy of that registration falling into the hands of Ocen
Nekyon’s family and thugs like Akena Adoko has it in his brief case. Kindly cut
the crap of the identity card, we do not need it and I will fight it all the
way for I have lived through these friends when you have not.

A very difference between Ugandans that read about Uganda violence and those
that have lived through it.

Pakide Ponyura:

Birth-and death- registration is the way forward. I bet you no agency in
Uganda can tell how many children were born in Uganda last year and over the
last five years. Of course they have no clue how many Ugandans died. No wonder
those in charge in pensions are stealing billions because the govt has no idea
how many former pensioners are still alive.

Let the journalists fighting to cover parliament ask minister Aronda how many
kids were born in Uganda? He has no clue and I suspect would refer them to the
ministry of health.

It is a very good idea that all Ugandans need national ID. However, as is with
every policy or initiative that is Ugandan, the problem is with implementation.

What Uganda needs right now is an effective birth registration system
throughout the country. All children born in Uganda whether at home or health
facility must be registered and thus issued a birth certificate. A birth
certificate is the most basic and primary document every Ugandan needs.

Children don't need a national ID. For what purpose? They grow fast and change
very quickly -- where do you get funds to replace IDs every 2 or 3 years for
children?

General Aronda is setting himself up for failure because there are massive
resources needed to ensure everyone is issued an ID.

It is best to think through things if you want to succeed otherwise these
haphazard pronouncements are bound to make criminals out of law abiding
citizens.

The General should therefore seek an amendment to the law (if there is any),
that any Ugandan 18 years or above must have a national ID by 2020. Give
yourself enough time for such a massive undertaking...

All I know is that in the U.S everyone needs a social security number or some
form of Federal identification number to be able to use services, get an ID or
drivers license. This is long over due and starting with children is kind of a
very good idea. It will be even better if the parents must have an ID before
the child can get theirs, great incentive.

A national ID is one of the missing keys needed by government to offer better
monitored services to its population.

Whats your reaction towards the "No national ID, no school in 2017" as proposed
by Gen. Aronda Nyakairima?

Effective June 2017, no child will be allowed in school without a national
identity card, internal affairs minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima has said.

In addition, nobody (Ugandan or foreigner) will be allowed to live in Uganda if
one is not registered and in possession of a national ID.

Aronda announced the plan during a meeting held at Kololo Independence Grounds
on Saturday with citizenship verification officers whose contracts came to an
end.
