*Re:The Death of Ivan Kyayonka.* Dear friends,
How do I express how devastated I am, at news of the death of one of our very own, Ivan Kyayonka. There are no words I can summon to express such depth of hurt and sorrow that will be with me for the rest of my life. The beauty of teaching is that some of the students become lifelong bosom friends. Kyayonka was not just my student at King’s College Budo. He was a kid brother to a very dear friend. So above all he was family!! It is a terrible blow to our country to lose an Executive Engineer of that caliber. We send our sorrow to his elder Brother, Hon Nelson Gagawala Wambuzi, and to the family. We send our sorrow to the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of our country i.e. – the family of Chief Justice Wambuzi, Mzee Mukyala Rhoda Kalema, Mzee Mukyala Mpanga, Mukulu Ssebana-Kizito, and Mukulu Mzee Lwanga of Shell Oil Uganda Limited, ………….., one is unable to list everybody and all who helped us to educate that generation of Ugandans !! Again on behalf of my country I want to send a message to Shell Oil Company for Eastern Africa and the whole Corporate Sector in general, Tullow etc… that the only fitting tribute to Engineer Kyayonka is to mount a Herculean effort to lift our School Mathematics Education to new heights. Last year’s report on Uganda School Maths says that every student in the country found “Vectors” very hard to ‘understand’. As a Senior teacher in our country I want to alert all of you parents, for you to ask: *How many Examiners in our Examinations Board understand what a vector is !!* I was a very Senior Teacher, and an Examiner too with UNEB. To Kyayonka and his friends I taught Vector Calculus and jazz like that ….. necessary for Electromagnetism you know !! And I thought I knew the meaning of “vector”. Don’t start me !! We already have talked about "half baked" last time!! For ever, Comrade Kyayonka will always remain Dear in our hearts!! JFZ
