"--without-gtk2" is what you want.
Two hyphens are required.
FYI, from uim 1.7.0 alpha, we support only GTK+2 >= 2.14
for GTK+2 bridge and tools:

I am interested in qt4 support only. uim-1.6.1 builds fine on the same setup.
Am I missing or need to upgrade any library?
