My 2xggfather was Alexander McGrew. Very little is known about him, except
that his widow's name was listed as both McGrew and McGraw in Pennsylvania.
(I have DNA matches for both names.) His daughter, who was born in 1824
Pittsburgh, PA, in censuses said that he was born in 1) England and 2)
Ireland.

I didn't know his given name until I found his mother-in-law's
Revolutionary War Widow's Pension Application, which said that he had
transcribed their German-language family Bible from German to English
before he died in 1829. So, he was literate. I found him in the 1826
Pittsburgh City Directory, occupation: Carpenter.

I have not found a grave and do not know when he was born. (His widow was
born in 1791.) I have not found him in any USA census or immigration record
and have checked many spellings.

All leads are appreciated.
