I agree. AST deserves to be derided for his horrible textbooks, rather than a misjudgement in kernel design. In my opinion, AST is often out of touch, as evidenced by his argument with Linus (which Linus eventually apologized for), but demonstrated much more aptly by the stunning opacity of his books.
