After many frustrating Web searches I would like to find some information
about the kernel module 'netconsole.' I am probably not searching for the
right terms or something because all I want to know is this:
-> Is this module available for kernel 2.4.32?
Background:
The server I am running has had two lock ups in the past month. That's
quite a lot given how stable it was in the past.[1] In the past I ran
2.4.20.SuSE which was distrubuted by SuSE. I wanted to upgrade the kernel
for USB support among other reasons. SuSE stop distributing kernels for
the distro (8.2) so I went a downloaded a kernel from kernel.org: 2.4.32.
I don't find netconsole in my /usr/src/linux/2.4.32/ menuconfig,
Documentation, or directory tree. However, I do have it for 2.6.15 (on
another machine) and I would assume other 2.6.x kernels. Oddly enough I
have it in my 2.4.20.SuSE directory tree.
Is netconsole available for my currently running kernel? Can I download
it somewhere? Or is it only a 2.6.x module and it was is something
packaged by SuSE specially for their 2.4.x kernel?
Thanks in advance,
Shawn
[1] FYI I discovered the uptime counter rolls over at 497 days.
