[UM-LINUX] recommendations for new system

It is time for me to assemble another linux box for lab use. It must run 
Mathematica with reasonable speed.

My existing systems use SUSE 9.2.
I would like to keep costs for motherboard and processor below $400 and 
would prefer ATX form.

Since the possibilities appear infinite I would like some recommendations.
