International Collegiate Programming Contest
We're looking for capable problem-solvers to join the UMCP team.
*****If you are interested in competing, please reply to this message to
let us know ASAP.*****
Team selection will be based on performance in local contests to be held
before the regionals. A strong background in Algorithms (CMSC 351 and 451)
is helpful, but everyone is welcome to participate in the local contests.
Even if you don't think you'll be ready/able to compete this year, we'd
still like to have a team start preparing for next year so don't let this
stop you. Juniors who will be able to compete again next year are
especially encouraged to get involved.
To be eligible to compete, you must have been born in or after 1983 OR
have started your post-secondary education in or after 2002. If you don't
meet the criteria, we may be able to petition for an exception. You must
be currently enrolled at least half time (6 credits).
UMD ranked 4th in the world in 1981 and 1985 and UMD placed 39th out of 83
teams in the 2006 ICPC World Finals. The prize money from those years is
still providing pizza at ACM meetings. Don't let future generations of CS
majors go hungry! Help us bring home the 10 grand!
We will be recruiting participants for this year's ICPC. The regional
contest will be held October 28 and the World Finals will be next Spring
in Tokyo! Stay tuned for more details regarding local tryouts.
