Thanks Alexey I figured it out!! I had the wrong default gateway and I beleive /etc/nsswitch.conf had something to do with it as well. I copied /etc/nsswitch.dns over to .conf, changed /etc/defaultrouter and bingo bango I'm in.

Also, the system was looking for /etc/named.conf. I found a file on the system called named-bootconf under like /usr/local or somethin', so I mv'd it over to etc to be named.conf and it worked. screwy. After all that upon boot /etc/init.d/inetsvc was able to start named daemon.
