I need more of a generic project management with Gantt charts etc. I'll
be looking into dotproject, but it looks like overkill for what I'm
needing...

Depends what kind of project. If its a coding project of some form,
id definitely look into trac. While this doesn't include some
features dotproject has, it definitely good for organizing a team,
setting schedules, tracking bugs etc. Trac also has a much smaller
learning curve than dotproject and is less 'quirky' in my opinion.
Trac also links to SVN if its a coding project. If your project is
less interested in code, Id look at dotproject. But again, it really
depends on what your looking to manage with the software.
Dotproject is decent for managing resources (such as people and funds)
while Trac is very good for managing schedules and individual tasks
that must be completed (though trac definitely is geared towards a
software dev project).

Guys,
I'm looking for an open source simple project management system based
on php/mysql/apache. Anyone have any recommendations?
