You could have a flaky switch or one of the other machines may be misbehaving. I'd start by powering off the switch and the gateway Linux box. Bring the gateway server back up, and make sure it is communicating OK on the WAN side. Once that's OK, power up the switch, with only one of your clients (on a non-routable IP) connected to it, and see if that works (gateway + switch + one client). Assuming everything is OK at this point, you can plug the rest of the clients into the switch, one at a time, making sure everything still works after each client is added. This might help you isolate where the problem is.
