There's a lot of old computer gear being bought and sold at "hamfests", get-togethers the ham radio operators have typically on Sunday mornings and afternoons. There is usually an admission charge of from $5 to $15 for just people to get in, with more charged for indoor tables. There is also "tailgating", selling from the tailgates of your cars or trucks, but there is usually an additional charge for this too.

Bottom line: you can buy with just admission, but you will have to pay more to sell. Some of the local hamfests are listed here:

I know the Washington Apple Pie sometimes has swap meets, you should check out the Capital PC User's Association to see if they have them also.

On that note ...

Are there any swap meets where people can sell buy computers and parts?

I have a bunch of old stuff which would be great for students doing Linux.

Subject: [UM-LINUX] Moving Sale

Hello UMLUGers-

I'm moving out of the area in the next week or so and am trying to get rid of stuff. I've got three things to unload which I thought you all might be interested in:

- A old Netlux notebook, model 6120. Worked great a a few years, but is too slow to do much these days. Last I used it, both batteries were shot, but it operated fine. Probably has an older Xubuntu installed.

- A Toshiba combination notebook and tablet- Portege something or other, I think. Some of you might remember it from past UMLUG events. Unfortunately, the keyboard gradually started it's descent into madness after a severe soda spill at an UMLUG Installfest. Last I tried, everything was working great except the keyboard. It might be missing the hard drive- I think I was network booting it for awhile.

- Stacks of old magazines including Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Scientific American, Linux Journal, and Guitar Player. I've been collecting magazines for years, but I've had to downsize my collection to fit into my new apartment.

I'm looking for a good home for any of the magazines (they'll go in the trash if nobody takes them) and best offer for the notebooks- keep in mind that the best offer may be "free"/beer/whatever. They're "as-is" since I don't have time to check them out or anything. Carrying cases included with both.

Email me if you're interested. I'll be around all week (but with a tight schedule) for pickup. Pictures on request.

OT:

I've also got some shop equipment (chop saw, work table, skill saws, paint, ect..) which I'm looking to unload.
