Hi Ralph, The LAN party is usually BYOC, but I think thats just because nobodys ever thought to do otherwise. Having some spare computers there wouldn't be a bad idea, and I have at least one that I could bring...
In the past I think we've typically played one of the games hosted on this mirror: http://mirror.umoss.org/games/ , or something else pretty cross-platform like Unreal Tournament. I missed the last two LAN parties last semester, so I actually don't have that much of a frame of reference. =) I think the big problem we always have with boxed software is getting Linux, Windows, and sometimes Mac install copies beforehand, so that's an open possibility but we need to get our ducks in a row with that before the event. I think we may have also done Starcraft under WINE once, but I remember someone saying it was terribly difficult so we should have someone who's well versed in SC WINE installations to help with that if we're going to advertise it as part of the event. It certainly has been difficult when I've tried it on my own. You can definitely help with the setup and event hosting. Usually we setup a few console machines, and then have a wired and wireless network available for PC gamers. We also need people who are able to actively look for people who look confused about whats going on and try to welcome them in some form or fashion. If you're interested in any of these let me know and I will talk to you as our plans for the evening firm up. -Ed On Sat, 2008-08-23 at 09:23 -0400, Ralph Edezhath wrote: > Hi Ed, > I am new to the mailing list, and to UMLUG.
