Glad you got your data back. For future reference, if the drive spins up (is not completely silent), the best thing to do is connect it to a working computer and use dd or ddrescue <http://www.toad.com/gnu/sysadmin/index.html#ddrescue> to make an image of it. Once you have the image, you can mount it and try any of the recovery tools on it without fear of losing the drive or further corrupting any data. There are several linux tools available for recovery, I like this one : http://www.guzu.net/linux/e2retrieve.php
