System: ASUS M3N78 Pro (On board sound disabled) Sound Card: Turtle Beach C-Media CMI8738 (Alsa Mixer) Ubunutu 8.10 amd64 (updated 2/22/09)
Problem: I can hear line-in (it is attached to a Verizon set-top-box) even if no audio application is running. If I try to run an audio application that uses line-in I get feedback. The only way I have been able to stop this is to mute line-in, but then I can't use it for applications such as xawtv, etc.. Does anyone have an idea about what I am doing wrong? Also advice on a good "fully" supported sound card for linux (HDA) would be appreciated (I also have an audigy ZS platinum where the line-in has never worked).
