I've actually done a lot with CUDA for research and also for an 
internship.  It was a little flaky at first, but recent versions have 
gotten a lot better (though, still not perfect).  Another thing I'm 
interested in looking at is OpenCL, which, if I understand it right, is 
basically a hardware independent GPU compute language.
