I'd like to know the answer to this too... new to the PG/Montomery
area -- Whats the non-landfill process for old/dead electronic
equipment? How about CRT-based monitors/TV's?

Montgomery County's information:
http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/apps/dep/solidwaste/CollectionServices/material_detail.asp?categoryID=53

Usually you need to take them to the transfer station:
http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/apps/dep/solidwaste/collectionservices/facility_detail.asp?facilityID=6

They do accept CRTs (and lots of other stuff) for recycling there.

Is there a place in the area that will recycle/give away old PC equipment?
I have some old parts myself that I want to get rid of, but I feel bad
about putting them in the trash.

I have a box full of surplus computer gear from my overflowing parts bin,
and it's all going in the trash on Friday unless someone wants it.  I have
dozens of IDE ribbon cables, CD-audio cables, cat4/cat5 network cables,
assorted small hard drives, power supplies, 10/100 switches, power cables,
power supplies, a stripped down laptop shell and much much more.  I also
have two beastly CRT monitors up for grabs.

I'm located in the Chemical Engineering building (bldg 90), give me a
shout
if you're interested in taking any/all of it away.
