Hi, I’m interested in improving the Packet Manipulator and I’ve been exploring the PM codebase/userinterface with its backends and related tools mentioned in the ideas page. I know there is not much time to deadline and much of you are busy, but it would be very helpful if I could get some of your comments before I submit my proposal.
Basically, I’ve seperated my development plan into 3 parts; 1) style and performance improvements of user interface; I have analyzed the PM user interface in both windows and ubuntu. In my tests, during packet capturing, I found that `stop` button didn’t work accurately and packet perspective gives errors when you try to change the view. Slowness was also another issue that I encountered. As a result, I think, PM user interface needs to be reviewed and more user friendly design should be implemented. I want to resolve these issues in first part. 2) Information gathering and visualization implementation; I’ve set up inguma and maltego tools and I’ve tried to learn their working principles. I liked the contextual menu visualization that gives you the ability of investigating the elements in deep. PM also needs that visualization and the tools behind that definitely. 3) Integration of metasploit with PM. I’ve searched for an api to use metasploit towards python and found MSGRPC library which is recently writtten by SpiderLabs that enables client to execute metasploit queries. This one also another task that I’m willing to implement. I've developed different kinds of programs, scripts, server-client applications with python. My gui development experience is based on wxpython. As I searched, pygtk also should be easy to use and develop. I just summarized what I want to implement from the explanations in idea 12. I hope, I can find the best or most urgent improvements for PM with your comments.
